I find the \”ugly\” part of the story so difficult to grasp because the artist actually made her super cute (the freckles make her even more adorable)
I\’m really happy to see them finally resolve the misunderstanding though; that\’s always my favorite part of these stories โค๏ธ
I was also thinking the same thing but when considering how hard that must be to portray โuglyโ for a main character of a romance story, it makes sense that the artist chose to make her plain instead. Because I donโt think anyone reading would actually want her to be ugly ugly.
In the beginning of the story she was โuglyโ before she worked for the count. Not naturally, but due to starving, overworking and constantly being beaten. She probably looked like she was barely alive back then. After she had started working for the count, she had time to heal, sleep and eat properly, so she doesnโt look โuglyโ anymore. The scars she has from most of her life are pretty deep, so it makes sense she still believes it.
I think part of it was what was considered beautiful around the time this story is set in. On top of her malnourished and beaten state at the beginning, she had freckles. Freckles were an imperfection that was strongly looked down on as โuglyโ. Pair that with the stigma she had from everyone telling her how ugly she was and itโs easy to see how she so strongly believed that.
True bro I can\โt even see her ugly. Seems like the artist don\โt want to made her too ugly and instead make her appealing to the audience. Maybe because of malnutrition and constant harassing making her ugly to look at but considering her sister Alicia is beautiful so she should too if has appropriate make-up and appearance

Sure, he couldโve told her outright that she was beautiful (and in his own way he does with how he touches her and how he complimented her with the ribbon), but she wouldnโt have believed him anyways. Sheโs been told her whole life that she is ugly, so I think the way he approached her insecurity was perfect. It didnโt leave any room for her to refuse him.
